Meet The Founder

After a lot of trial and error, dozens of recipes and tests, tons of research and conversations, I decided to launch a beverage product called MABÏ® — inspired by the traditional maví, mabí, or mauby drink widely consumed in the Caribbean.   

One of the reasons I decided to start this company was to share the health benefits and cultural richness of this drink that has been present in the Caribbean Islands for so long, but is missing a spotlight in bigger spaces. I grew up drinking mabí. I have this memory of enjoying it under my mango tree on a hot (as always) Sunday afternoon back in the D.R. As an adult living in Brooklyn, I found myself craving the taste and feeling, but I couldn’t find it. So I decided to make my own mabí by following online recipes. My first attempt was awful! However, I figure I could make my own version to enjoy the health benefits of the bark, so I started playing with other herbs, blends and spices, brewing times, and of course, healthier sweetener options. Diabetes runs in my family, so it was important for me to find a sweetener that was healthy and tasty to substitute the tons of sugar used in traditional recipes. 

Being born in NYC and raised in the Dominican Republic by a Dominican father and a Dominican-Chinese mother, I felt the need to implement more cultures into each bottle. We include ingredients from all over the world: our main superstar, mauby bark from the Caribbean, green tea, hibiscus flowers and monk fruit from Asia, chamomile from Egypt, rooibos from South Africa, and the list goes on. I decided to make my own version of mabí, a remix, if you want to call it that. We put all this goodness together in a recyclable glass bottle, and boom, MABÏ was born.
